Sustainability of Open Source and Education

The past two weeks, OS-SCi has visited many universities in India, our Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Ir. Erik Mols has given lectures about Free and Open Source Software to over 1500 students and professors, paving the way to improve the sustainability of Free and Open Source Software. Thanks to the National Forensic University (Ahmedabad), MIT-ADT University (Pune), D Y Patil International University (Pune), D Y Patil Agricultural (Talsande), DAV University (Jalandhar) and IBA (Bangalore) for the hospitality and the possibility to lecture. From 18 November onwards, our Vice Chancellor Richard Varghese and Dean MS Devaki Sahasrabudhe will be visiting and giving lectures to Universities in India and the United Arab Emirates.

On 23 November Erik Mols will give a lecture about foss, at the Open Source Event in the Lochal in Tilburg (The Netherlands)(https://os-sci.com/event/open-source-event-tilburg-11/register).

The importance of Free and Open Source Software education, is not reflected in the curriculums of Universities worldwide. While 95% of the Internet runs on FOSS, less than 1% of the international computer science educations have open source technologies on their curriculum.

OS-SCi builds continuously on her network of universities, FOSS communities and companies, creating opportunities in education and work experience for students from all over the world. Real Open Source projects in which students participate and work together with open source projects, but also possibilities for internships all over the world.
